Victoria and James' search for their wedding photographer

When I was trying to find a wedding photographer for mine and my fiancé James’ wedding,                I decided to start with the Yellow Pages just to ring round a few photographers to find out how much it was likely to cost and what the packages were like. I scanned the different adverts looking for something which sounded right for us and I narrowed it down to about three photographers.I rang two of them but was immediately put off when (after telling me their prices) they said; "it’s the most important day of your life so it’s really important that you get a good photographer". I had already decided that I wouldn’t go for a supplier who used this tactic - organising a wedding is stressful enough without your suppliers trying to terrify you into booking them!

Then I rang Angela Parkinson. She was really friendly but very professional and I was relieved that she didn’t say "It’s the most important day of your life…"! I was also impressed at how reasonable her costs were as she doesn’t have the same overheads as some of the more commercial photographers and has been working with many of her suppliers for years. Her CV was also excellent – her advert mentioned that she had won numerous Kodak and Fuji awards but she didn’t even mention these until I asked! She did talk about how she had worked in photography and printing for 20 years and was really particular about the quality of her work. She sounded like a perfectionist which is a fantastic attribute in a wedding supplier!! She said she would send me some price details through the post and suggested I go onto her website to see examples of her work.
As soon as I put the phone down, I went straight onto the internet. The photos were amazing - each one could have been a painting! The backgrounds were stunning and I loved the way she managed to capture the atmosphere. Later that night when James came home from work, I showed him a few websites and then went onto Angela’s (I didn’t want to influence him!) He absolutely loved Angela’s work so we rang her there and then! Luckily, even though it was 9pm at night, Angela didn’t mind! In fact, she was fantastic throughout the whole thing. We went to visit her to see actual examples of her work and they were even better in print. She had a real passion for photography (not to mention a real talent) and James and e was really good at explaining what made a good photo. By the time we left, we realised we had made a brilliant choice. We met up with her a couple more times before the wedding and it was so nice to have complete faith in a supplier – we knew she would do a fantastic job – and she did.
On the day she was brilliant. She did extremely well to organise the group shots as we had 150 people at our wedding (James and I have been together for 9 years and we have lots of family and mutual friends so everyone had been looking forward to the day for years!) Everyone was really relaxed and really enjoyed having the photos taken (even me and James which is unusual for us - we normally end up doing ‘Creature Comforts’ smiles!) You can tell when you look at the photos how relaxed and happy everyone is and we now have some of the best photos that have ever been taken of us and our family and friends that we will treasure forever.
We first saw our photos on Angela’s website while we were still on honeymoon in Sorrento. It was an incredibly emotional moment. They were the first photos we had seen of the wedding because we left for our honeymoon the morning after the wedding and as we scrolled through the pictures we both ended up with tears streaming down our faces - tears of happiness of course! The photos were incredible. It was like reliving the day – Angela had captured the whole day and the whole atmosphere perfectly.
We have now just chosen our photos for the album – an incredibly difficult choice as they were all unbelievable! Unfortunately you can’t fit 72 into an album apparently! It’s a good job she didn’t shoot our wedding in digital or we would have been completely stuck! We can’t thank Angela enough for everything she has done for us. She was everything we could have asked and hoped for in a photographer and we can’t recommend her highly enough. We’re going to pick the album up tonight and we can’t wait to see the end product! We were saying the other day though that in a way we’ll be sad when we get the photos - we’re actually going to miss Angela and really hope we can stay in touch! She’s got us passionate about photography now too!
